Search for sim racing in Chennai and you get a mixed list: dedicated lounges, arcade cabinets in malls, showrooms that sell rigs rather than let you drive one, and the occasional pop-up at an event. They photograph almost identically and they are not remotely the same thing. Four checks tell them apart, and all four can be done before you leave the house.
1. What is the wheel?
This decides more than everything else combined. A wheel that rumbles or buzzes is not force feedback — it is a vibration motor, and it tells you nothing about the car. Real force feedback physically resists you: the rim goes heavy as the front tyres load up in a corner and goes light the instant they let go, which is how you learn to catch a slide. Ask for the make and model. Direct drive is the strong, detailed kind. Gear- or belt-driven is the friendlier step below it and perfectly good. Anything that cannot be named is usually the third category.
2. Are the lap times real?
A leaderboard on a wall is easy. A leaderboard read out of the game is not. Ask where the times come from: if somebody is typing them in, the board is decoration, and your time means whatever the last person to hold a marker decided it meant. Read straight from telemetry, it carries sector splits, top speed and the gap to the driver ahead — and it is a record you can come back and beat.
3. What does a minute actually cost?
Session prices are not comparable until you divide by the minutes, and almost nobody publishes the result. Do it for every place on your list. Here is ours, so you have something to divide against — standard seat first, pro seat second, in the last column.

Then check what the number does not include. Is there a booking fee? A membership? Does a longer stint cost per minute past the block you bought? Does bringing a friend cost more than two of the same session? Ours are no, no, no and no — two drivers is two sessions off that board with nothing added, because the rigs are networked and racing each other is not a separate product.
4. Can you just turn up?
A booking-only venue is fine if you know when you are free. If you are deciding on a Saturday afternoon, it is the difference between going and not going. We do not take bookings at all — walk in during opening hours, give your name at the desk, and you are on the floor. The trade-off is honest: on a busy weekend afternoon with both seats running you may wait fifteen to thirty minutes.
Where we are genuinely not the answer
- You want a motion platform that pitches and rolls the whole seat. Ours do not move; the feedback comes through the wheel and pedals.
- You are bringing a large group who all need to drive at once. There are two seats here, so a group takes turns — good for a birthday, wrong for thirty people on a deadline.
- You want to buy a rig rather than drive one. We are a place to race, not a retailer.
For everyone else the checks above are the whole decision: a named force-feedback wheel, telemetry-backed lap times, a per-minute price you worked out yourself, and no booking to arrange.
